
Wigan AthleticA move to the JJB Stadium and an Auto Windscreens Shield triumph featured in 1999, but it was not until 2003 that the Latics, under Paul Jewell, achieved promotion from the Second Division.
And it was not long before chairman Dave Whelan's dream was realised as Wigan finished second in the Championship in 2005 and were promoted to the Premier League for the first time.

Wigan WarriorsWigan Warriors, widely regarded as the most famous Rugby League team in the world are based and play all their home games at the magnificent JJB Stadium here in Wigan. They are a member of the engage Super League.
The team wear the famous Cherry & White hooped shirts for their home fixtures and the club is owned by Ian Lenagan. They currently hold the Super League record attendance of 25,004 for the Good Friday fixture with local rivals St Helens in April 2005. The club paid a world record fee to acquire the services of GB forward Stuart Fielden in 2006.
The JJB Stadium also is a regular host of International Rugby League with many Great Britain ‘Test Matches’ having been played here.
